This topic makes for a bit of a laugh actually. Its amazing how people's behaviour changes when scrambling for bargains, especially at garage sales. Can you imagine someone actually shoving you aside for a 50 cent egg slicer? Or sneaking up and actually "pinching" an item you had put aside to pay for a minute later? People certainly get crazy when there's bargains to be had. I guess its that "get in quick or you'll miss out!" mindset.
Ok picture this, you've just arrived at a local garage sale. You're there early, infact 20 minutes before the start time, and already the gates are open and people are pouring in, running in circles like headless chooks picking up anything and everything. You think to yourself momentarily, "...this is crazy!"
But amongst all the madness you do your best to ensure you are first in to snap up those fantastic bargains. Wow, $5 for a television set -- "I'll take that!" -- $3 for a desk lamp, -- "Yep I'lll have that too!" -- $10 for two baby strollers - "Awesome, I'll have that too!"
Minutes later you find that you are unable to carry everything. You've got yourself loaded up to the point of not being able to see where you are going. Your eyes are just popping over the top of stuff as you scramble to find more and more bargains. All the while trying to fight people who might beat you to it!
So what to do?
"I know, I'll just put these things down over here, and keep browsing..."
BIG MISTAKE!
You continue browsing and again minutes later, find that you have another arms full of stuff, only to return to your previous stash to find that its been knocked off! Other buyers have mistakingly taken from your pile thinking its stuff thats still for sale! Aaagghh!
What happened to that $1 toaster I had put aside...? It's GONE!"
A tragedy!
Okay so what can be done to prevent this?
The best advice I can offer is TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU. You can continue to browse and shop, whilst a friend or family member ensures no one pinches your stuff -- make sense?
Failing to do so, can result in either missing out on bargains or front yard punch ups. Not good!
So remember, work together, be sure to get in early and grab those bargains, but be POLITE and keep an eye on your stuff!
