Let Your Kids Set Up a Lemonade Stand

One of the things that will occupy children is having a lemonade stand. Allow them to sell it for 5 or 10 cents a cup. This price is enough to make children feel as though they have earned something for their hard work and reasonable enough for customers to afford. Teach your children how to make the lemonade and then have them sit outside at a table. They (probably with the help of you, for younger children) can pour the lemonade into cups. Although kids would love to have a lemonade stand during any time of the year, a yard sale is a great way to get potential customers there. It will work out the best on a hot day, when lemonade will quench almost anyone's thirst!

Allow Your Kids to Handle the Money Box

When you have your yard sale, you will want to keep a money box. This is where you will put the money that you do earn, as well as the change that you are going to need. Allowing your kids to handle the money box will not only keep them occupied, but it will also make them feel really important. Keep in mind that you will probably need to monitor what your children are doing when it comes time for your customers to pay for their items, to make sure that they are getting the right amount of change and giving your children the right amount of money.

Have Your Children Organize Some of the Tables

You may want to allow your children to organize some of the different tables. This is a great way to ensure that your tables will look great. While adults are much more likely to just slap the items down on the table, children are likely to take more pride in what they are doing. Of course, keep in mind that this is something that your children will be able to do when you are first setting up for and beginning your yard sale. You are probably going to need to find something to keep them occupied for the rest of the day.

Find Some Outdoor Activities For Your Children

As much as you may do to try to get them involved, some kids are simply not going to be interested in taking part in the yard sale. If this is the case, you may want to try to find some outdoor activities for your children to take part in during the yard sale. However, keep in mind that certain activities, such as football and ultimate Frisbee, are not appropriate because they may cause your children to get in the way. If you have a baby pool, you may want to fill it up with water, but be sure that someone can watch the kids while they are in the water. Slip and Slides, blowing bubbles and using sidewalk chalk are all great outdoor activities for children to take part in during the yard sale.

If you are not looking forward to holding your yard sale because you are afraid that your kids are going to be very bored and miserable, you may want to allow them to do some of the things that were mentioned above. Instead of listening to your kids complain, these are some very easy things that you can do in order to keep them occupied. Keep in mind that if you have an only child, you may want to think about allowing him or her to invite a friend over, as this will help with occupying your child while you are busy.
