Q1. How do I place a Garage Sale advertisement?
Its easy! You just need to provide the details of your garage sale, and your email address and password so you can log in to make changes to your ad. This is all done on one online form. You can make your payment using your Pay Pal account; by credit card through our St George Bank secure payment facility; by direct deposit via your online banking or with a money order. To place a garage sale ad simply click here
 
Q2. Why can't I see the Garage Sale's full address or the name of the seller?
When sellers do their ads, they can choose to hide their street name until closer to the start of their garage sale. This way privacy is protected when advertising in advance whilst still giving the ad great exposure by showing the suburb. The ad will say when the full address will be displayed. eg 'Address withheld until 1 day prior to start time'. Seller's details are never disclosed. We can pass on your details to the seller. It is then up to the seller to decide if they want to contact you prior to the start of the garage sale.
 
Q3. How long does my Garage Sale advertisement stay listed?
Your advertisement remains listed from the time it is listed until the end of your garage sale for the one flat fee. You can also relist your ad for free if you have to postpone your sale, or you have more things for sale and decide to have another garage sale at the same address.
 
Q4. How many Garage Sale advertisements can I place?
As many as you like so long as they are not of a commercial or business type nature.
 
Q5. What's the difference between an 'ACTIVE' and 'LISTED' Garage Sale?
This question is best answered in the following way:
 
There are 3 stages a Garage Sale advertisement goes through when listed on egaragesales.com.au.
   
  1) Listed Stage
Once a Garage Sale ad is approved by us, it becomes Listed to the public. During this stage, only the suburb is displayed, NOT the street address. The street address is only revealed when the sale goes Active (read below).
   
  2) Active Stage
A Garage Sale ad moves from Listed to Active when the street address details are shown. At this stage, the Garage Sale full address is made available for all to see - much like a newspaper listing. The Garage Sale remains active until it reaches its finish time. The Seller decides when doing their ad how many days before the garage sale their street address will be shown.
   
  3) Closed Stage
A Garage Sale ad moves to the closed stage when the sale has finished, at which point it is moved to our Past Sales listings and can't be edited anymore. Your street address is once again hidden to protect your privacy. The Seller can relist the ad within a day by changing the sale date. If you would like to re-use your ad for free but it has gone to Past Sales, then contact us and we can retrieve your ad. You just need to tell us the new date and then you can make changes to the ad for the new garage sale.
 
Q6. Can I change my ad if I want? How can I view the status of my ad?
You can change your ad and monitor its status simply by clicking on View My Ad in the left menu and logging in. Then click on "View/Edit My Garage Sales". To login, simply type in the email address and password you used when you first placed your ad.
 
Q7. Do I need to sign up as a member to place an advertisement?
When you place your ad you specify your email address and a password, which then allows you to return later and make ammendments to your ad if you wish. You need to log in with your email address and password. Please note that your details are always kept confidential and never passed onto anyone else.
 
Q8. What's the difference between a Featured ad and a Basic ad?
A Featured Ad has a coloured heading, allows you to upload 10 photos and allows you to include a banner at no extra charge (normally $2.50). Featured advertisements give better exposure, a more professional look and a greater chance at success. Basic ads include the same quantity of text in the description but uses a standard heading, and a banner is optional at $2.50 extra. So having photos is the main difference. Remember, unlike newspaper ads, there are NO word or line limits with our ads. You can make your ad description as long as you need to fully explain what's in your garage sale, and you can even include directions if you are hard to find. It is important to note that if you do a Basic Ad and then decide you want photos, you can't upgrade to a Featured Ad. You would need to cancel the Basic Ad and do a new Featured Ad, then contact us to organise the additional payment.
 
Q9. How many photos can I put in my Featured Garage Sale Ad?
A. You can upload up to 10 images per Featured Ad. If you created a Basic Ad first, you can't upgrade it to a Featured Ad if you later decide you want photos. You would need to delete the Basic Ad and create a new Featured Ad. The Basic Ad fee would be refunded but you would need to contact us to arrange the fee adjustment.
 
Q10. What is the maximum size my photo can be? Do I need to resize my photos before I upload them?
A. You can upload images of any size you desire. As long as the file type is either BMP, JPG, or GIF, you dont have to resize them at all. Everything is done automatically by the web site. Be aware, though, if you have dialup internet, keep them small. The upload process will timeout if it takes your dialup internet too long to upload a number of large photos.
 
Q11. Is there any way of knowing how many times my ad has been viewed?
Yes. We display a 'view count' within each garage sale advertisement that tells you how many times the ad has been viewed in full.
 
Q12. I need help. Is there someone I can call to assist me?
Sure. For telephone assistance please contact us on (07) 3395 2900. You can also fax us on (07) 3395 2911 if you prefer. We may not always be there, but if you leave a number or a message, we'll call you back. See the Contact Us page for more information.
 
Q13. Can I pay via credit card over the phone?
If you have a problem with the online payment methods, then we can take details over the phone, if you prefer. If we don't answer the phone, leave a phone number for us to call you back and the ad number you want to pay. Don't leave credit card details.
Q14. I have advertised a sale, however due to unforseen circumstances, have to cancel. How do I do this?
It depends on what you plan to do. If you plan to still hold the garage sale in the near future, you can simply change the date of your sale to the new date. If you cancel once your street name is showing in your ad, it is a good idea to add a note to your description to confirm there won't be a garage sale on the original date. If you don't intend holding a garage sale at all, you can delete your ad. To change the date, or delete your advertisement, simply click on View My Ad in the left menu, login with your email address and password, then click on "View/Edit My Garage Sales". To cancel, click on delete at the top. To postpone your sale, just change the date. If you are unsure what to do, contact us and we can do this for you.
Q15. How long does it take for my advertisement to be approved?
A. Usually all advertisements are approved within 6 hours of receiving payment. Paypal and credit card payments will be same day. Direct Debit will be up to 2 days after you pay. Money Order is really slow and expensive. Please be mindful of this when deciding on a payment method.
Q16. Can a business or a charity advertise on egaragesales?
Egaragesales usually promotes garage sales of a private nature. If you are a business selling goods in a special clearance event, or having a closing down sale, where prices will be very reasonable to the public, we will accept your ad. Please keep in mind, though, the types of goods garage sale buyers are looking for. They like items to be good and cheap. If you are unsure please contact us. Charity groups and non-profit organisations are welcome to advertise. If you are clearly a charity, Contact Us to request a free Ad.
Q17. I would like to request a refund, how do I go about doing this?
For refund matters Contact Us and we will assist you. Please have your ad number or name and suburb ready when doing so. Note our Ad Guarantee where you can claim a refund if your ad doesn't receive more than 60 clicks. You can check the number of clicks with the counter attached to your ad.
Q18. I need some help making payment, how do I do this?
If you experienced trouble when making payment, please contact us for assistance. Alternatively you can make payment directly using any one of the payment methods listed below -
